Tamko Shingle Repair: The Orlando Owner’s Guide
Tamko shingle repair in Orlando typically runs $285 to $640 for a standard section repair, and we stock Tamko-compatible shingles in the most common Orlando colors on our trucks, so most jobs are done in a single visit. Most homeowners discover the problem the ugly way: a shingle tab in the yard after an afternoon thunderstorm, a dark water stain creeping across the garage ceiling, or granules collecting in the gutter like black sand. Florida’s UV and wind work Tamko shingles differently than northern climates do, and we’ll explain exactly what that means for your roof.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To
Tamko makes two main shingle lines we work with regularly: the Heritage series (their architectural laminated shingle, sold in 30-year and 50-year versions) and the Elite Glass-Seal series (a three-tab shingle). The Heritage line is what we see on most Orlando homes built since about 2005. If you have a leftover bundle in the garage or a receipt from the original install, the shingle code starts with a size designation like AR (architectural) or 3T (three-tab), which tells us the exact profile we need to match.
Compatibility gotcha: Tamko changed the notch pattern and shadow line on Heritage shingles around 2016. A Heritage “Weathered Wood” from 2012 won’t lay visually identical next to a 2024 bundle of the same name. We carry current-production Tamko colors, and when a true match is no longer available, we source from local Orlando suppliers who keep older production runs. Mercer Roofing Co Orlando is an independent roofing contractor; we are not affiliated with Tamko, but we install and repair their shingles every week, and we know which aftermarket sealants and flashing details perform best with their specific granule coating.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter (or on the driveway). Tamko’s ceramic-coated granules shed as UV degrades the asphalt layer underneath. By the time you see a visible bare spot, the shingle’s weatherproofing is already compromised. A roof that’s losing granules is a roof that’s about to start losing water battles.
- Curling or cupping at the shingle edges. This is thermal fatigue. Orlando’s cycle of 90-degree days and nighttime cooling causes the fiberglass mat to expand and contract. Once edges curl upward, wind gets underneath and starts peeling.
- A shingle tab in the yard after a storm. That’s a tear-off from wind uplift. It’s not random: the failed seal strip left that tab unprotected. Check the side of the roof that faces the prevailing afternoon storm track, usually the west and southwest exposures.
- Dark streaks or moss staining along the shingle shadow line. This is algae, but it eats into the shingle’s protective surface over time, and in Lake Nona and other areas with heavy tree canopy plus irrigation overspray, we see it accelerate shingle breakdown noticeably. Staining that’s left alone becomes a shingle failure within a few years.
- Leaks at a wall, chimney, or vent pipe, not in the field of the roof. More often than not, the shingle is fine and the flashing is the failure point. But when the flashing lifts a Tamko shingle, the repair needed is both flashing and shingle. We inspect both in every leak call.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical Orlando Tamko shingle repair, you’re looking at $285 to $640 installed. Small repairs (a few shingles replaced, a seal strip re-bonded) land at the low end. A larger section repair, which is what we do when wind has taken a dozen shingles or when decking underneath has rotted, reaches the higher end. The price includes the shingles, underlayment if needed, labor, haul-away of the old material, and a written price before we start. No change orders, no surprises.
Every Tamko repair from Mercer Roofing Co Orlando carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the repair fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. We put that in writing on every invoice, no fine print.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s one thing a homeowner can safely do: inspect from the ground. Binoculars can show you missing tabs, curling edges, and granule loss. From a safe vantage point, you can confirm there’s a problem worth a closer look.
The closer look belongs to a professional. Walking an Orlando roof means working on a heat-softened shingle surface over a deck that may be water-damaged from hurricane-season storms. A deck that looks solid is sometimes the first thing to give way. Our technicians carry the equipment and training to make that inspection safely, and they’ll show you photos of what they find with a clear explanation of what actually needs fixing versus what can wait. Call (850) 757-3564 and we’ll set up a free inspection.
FAQs
Plan on 15 to 20 years of reliable service from Heritage architectural shingles in Orlando’s climate, versus the 30-year rating on the packaging. Wind, UV, and thermal cycling shave years off the rating; it’s physics, not product failure. A roof that’s been properly ventilated and kept clean of debris lasts longer than one that bakes in attic heat.
Often yes. A single lifted tab can be re-sealed with the right adhesive, and we can replace one shingle without touching the ones around it. The catch is color and profile matching, which we covered above. If the match is off, a small section replacement looks better than a patched one. Call (850) 757-3564 and we’ll tell you which route works for your roof before anyone climbs up there.
Most repairs take 2 to 4 hours from setup to cleanup. We protect your landscaping with tarps, keep the work area organized, and walk the roof with you afterward if you want to see what we saw. A roof shouldn’t be a mystery, let’s talk about what’s actually up there.
We stock the most common Orlando Tamko colors on our trucks: Weathered Wood, Natural Timber, and Black Walnut are what we carry most often. Less common colors and older production runs we source from local Orlando suppliers, usually same day or next morning. If your shingle is discontinued, we’ll show you the closest current match before we order anything.
When you call (850) 757-3564, a live person answers. We’ll schedule a free inspection, send you the name and photo of the technician who’s coming, and that technician will arrive in uniform with a photo ID badge at your door. The written price comes before any work begins. That’s how we’ve operated since 2000, and it’s the only way we know to do it.
